All I can say is ... lesson learned, get it in writing. My fault. I should have known that a handshake is never the way to do business but I trusted the great reviews. And that was my second mistake. This guy does great work, but at the end of the day you pay a premium for it. It starts with a great quote. You think WOW, finally a price that's fair. And then once he gets started, Martin points out things that keep bumping the cost higher and higher. Who pays $100 to have a $30 faucet installed? Well I did. 2 of them. I trusted Martin to install them at a fair and reasonable price. Nope. And then when I ask why he tap dances and says the connection was sticky. That's right. I'm not really sure what the technical equivalent of "sticky" might be but I sure paid the price. And it didn't end there. It was only AFTER I had pulled the carpet off the stairs, and AFTER Martin had quoted the installation of hardwood treads that the price started to go up. And not by a little. He even had his recently graduated college daughter escort him through the job and nod her head at all the missed details that ended up raising the quote 35%. So, you think that's not that much. Well, when you're talking 13 stairs total, with no curves and painted risers ... that's a bundle. But hey. My fault. I should never have removed the carpet before getting a signed quote. Now I'm sitting here looking at bare 2X stairs and Martin tells me that if I don't like the quote I can find somebody else to do my stairs. Yeah. That's what he said and yeah, that's what I'm gonna do because I'm done with Martin. I was a fool to expect Martin to actually honor his word. My bad. And another lesson learned. But hey, I won't have to worry about Martin again.
